Inshore: Well the wind has finally stopped blowing, so maybe; we can get out and catch some fish this week. We have had wind for the last two weeks, this week looks good. Still with all the wind there have been some nice Flounder action going on at the Port Wall and Railroad Tracks. Most have been fishing Live Mud Minnows around the structure of the wall and the pilings. The Berkley Gulp Mud Minnow/Croaker has been a hot bait also. The Killifish color has been doing well for the people drifting the channels around Atlantic Beach. The ICW docks are still holding some nice Flatfish also. The Sheepshead bite has been solid around Docks, Bridges, Port Wall and Rock Jetties. The best baits are Sand Fidders, Sand Fleas, Sea Urchins and Clams.
The Redfish bite has been good in the Marsh areas around Morehead City. It seems like they are moving up on the Flats early and late in the day. The water in the middle of the day has been getting well into the 90’s in the Marsh areas. When it gets that hot the schools don’t seem to come in and feed and they are real spooky. SkitterWalks, Spook Jr’s, Gulp, Redfish Magic’s and DOA all work well for them. When it gets this hot you can fish the deeper docks along the ICW and do well. The best baits for dock fishing is Berkley Gulp Baits or Live Mud Minnows and Cut Mullet.
Spanish Mackerel bite has been hot just inside the inlet at first light in the morning and late in the day as the sun is setting. Most are being caught on Clarkspoons, Mackerel Trees, Gotcha-Plugs, Kastmasters, and Cripple Herrings. You will get some great Bluefish action fishing in the same areas.
Offshore: If the wind stays light I will have some ocean reports coming in. The Kingfish, Spanish and Flounder action should be on fire right now. We just have not had the right days to get out to them.
Pier / Surf: Spanish and Bluefish have been good early in the mornings and late in the day. Most are being caught on Gotcha-Plugs and Kastmasters. The Bottom fishing has been a mixed bag. Sea Mullets, Blue Fish, Hog Fish, Sharks, and Croakers. Most are using Bottom Rigs tipped with Shrimp, Squid, Bloodworms and Mullet. Flounder action has been good just in the breakers or around the pier pilings. Live Mud Minnows and Live Shrimp fished on a Carolina Rig will get the job done.
