With the warm weather the water temperature has been coming up about a degree a day. If it stays like this Spring Fishing should be in full swing in a few weeks. Still huge schools of Redfish are at the Cape around Shark Island. Gulp baits and Live Mud Minnows are working the best on the schooled up Reds. Some good schools have been down at Bouge & Bear Inlet in the Surf Zone also. Use the same baits working down that way as well. With the water warming up there have been some Redfish around the Haystacks that have moved in from the ocean. Gulp, spinnerbaits, and Live Mud Minnows are working the best for them. Not heard of many Speckled Trout being caught but with warming water, we should have a spring bite in the next few weeks. They will feed just like they do in the fall until the water gets too hot. There will be some Chopper Blues showing up soon in the surf and along the inlets, along with some Gray Trout & Sea Mullet in the inlets and in the turning basin. There has been some great Black Sea Bass fishing going on out around the 20-mile range. Seems that they are all over the wrecks and hard bottom areas offshore. The best way to catch them is bottom fishing with cut squid on the bottom. There have been some good catches of Black Fin Tuna and some Wahoo out around the Big Rock. Medium Ballyhoo has been the bait of choice along with a Blue Water Candy Lure in front.
