 Inshore / Nearshore:

We've seen some changes this week in the Speckled Trout fishing, seems with the cold blast we had earlier this week has some big fish on the move. Over the last few days, we've weighed 3 fish over the 6lb mark with the largest weighing in over 7lbs. Most of the larger fish has been coming from the backwater creek areas.

Also, there's better numbers of fish showing up at the Cape Lookout Rock Jetty to catch a few days this week. There's lots of smaller fish but limits are being caught without any problem by picking through the small class of fish.

Just yesterday, I heard of some decent catches from the beachfront with some nice fish in the 2 to 3lb range. Still seeing good numbers of fish around the Haystacks and in the Core Creek area. So, it looks like the cooler water tempetures have turned on the trout just in time for the Thanksgiving Holiday Weekend, plus we're going to have decent weather.

Sea Mullet fishing has been good over the last few days, the fish have moved from last week's “hot spot”. Anglers are finding more action back toward the Turning Basin area. Yesterday, I saw some of the biggest mullets I've seen in a while from our area, fish in the 14 to 15″ range; now that's a very nice Sea Mullet. So, just keep in mind the fish have moved on in since the water has cooled down this week.

I've been surprised with some of the Redfish we've seen come through the shop this week. Some really nice fish have been caught in the Core Creek area over the last few days with even a few nice ones being caught out at AR 315 in the ocean. I talked to a few customers that have caught quite a few in the last few days, which is a great sign since it's been slow so far this year for the Reds.

We've weighed a few nice Flounder this week, the Port Wall is still producing some nice fish and we've weighed a few in from AR 315. We should still see some fish over the next few weeks. I talked to a guy that went gigging this week and he reported still seeing good numbers of nice fish in the shallows so that's a great sign they haven't all moved out to the deeper waters.

Plenty of nice Gray Trout around to be caught. We're seeing the nicest fish coming from the AB High Rise Bridge and the Railroad Tracks. Also, there's fish in the Turning Basin and back toward the Inlet. If you are Speckled Trout fishing at the Cape Lookout Rock Jetty you'll also come across some Gray’s there.

Looks like from what we have seen this week the Bluefin Tuna are going to make a good showing this year. We've been seeing 2 to 5 fish caught a day this week. Most of the action has been around the Cape Lookout area. We have plenty of Horse and Select Ballyhoo in stock ready for action.

With the warmer fall, there are still plenty of Albacore around to be caught. Over the last few days the best action seems to be along AB beach but some fish have been caught up around Cape Lookout area.

Still seeing some King Macklerel out around Big 10 / Little 10 and Triple Nickel area, nowhere like the bite was but still a few to be caught. With this cold blast we just had, hard to say what the bite might be like now. So, it could be hit or miss or your could come across some good action.

Piers / Surf:

Puffer Fish has been the name of the game for the bottom-fishing anglers over the last few days. There's been plenty up and down the beaches and off the piers to catch. Along with the puffers, there's some Sea Mullets working the Surf Zone to be caught plus still a few Red Drum.

Speckled Trout fishing has picked up over the last few days in the Surf Zone, Fort Macon area down to the Oceanana Pier along with the south end seeing some action. I talked to few anglers yesteday that had no problem picking through the small ones top make a limit.  Also, the Radio Island area is reporting some action right at daylight and late in the afternoon right at dark and after.

Offshore:

Not really many boats been Offshore fishing this week, most that were Wahoo fishing has switch gears toward the Bluefin Tuna Season trying to cash in on some money. I would expect if you could make it out, there's still a few Wahoo to be caught around the Swansboro Hole if you can just get a good weather window to make the run.
