INSHORE:

Speckled Trout fishing has really improved at the Cape Lookout Rock Jetty from last Saturday into this week. I'm seeing reports like the “Good Old Days” with numbers of fish being caught and nice sized ones. I talked with one customer that went out on Wednesday and said he fished for 2 hours and caught keeper fish just about on every cast. Also, last Sunday there was a “Gator Trout” caught at the Rocks that weighed in at 9lbs. So, just maybe; we'll get a few more good weeks of fishing at the Jetty before it gets too cold and slows down everything.

I know last Saturday and this week Live Mud Minnows and Live Shrimp are both working great for catching keeper fish. Fish them on a light Carolina Rig, Float Rig or a Split Shot Rig to have the best results. We'll keep Live Shrimp as long as the water temperatures permit.  For the Thanksgiving Weekend, we are stocked with both. Also, Berkley Gulp Bait Jig heads are working well along with the new Blue Water Candy Shrimp. I know, the big trout that was caught on the new Mirrolure XL Soft Dine Lure. Billy Bay Shrimp, DOA Shrimp in the 1/2oz sizes are also good choices when fishing the jetty.

Plus, there was a good bite along Shackleford last weekend with a nice class of fish being caught right along the Surf Zone. If you weren't throwing right on the beach, you wouldn't get a bite.

As far as the inside waters, the Haystacks is holding good numbers of fish but still on the small side, you just have to pick through them to get a few keepers but there's plenty to have fun catching. Some of the creeks along the waterway like Gales Creek, Broad Creek and School House Creek are starting to hold a few nice fish. It’s been hit or miss but the Core Creek area has produced some nice fish at times. It’s like one day they're there and the next none around but that's fishing. The Neuse River area is still holding good numbers of fish and nice keeper size fish. Most of the creek fish are being caught on Mirrolure 17MR’s in lots of different colors, Vudu Shrimp, Savage Shrimp, Strom Shrimp, Z-Man Plastics are all good choices on the artificial baits.

There's nice Gray Trout being caught at the Cape Lookout Jetty along with the Speckled Trout and at night at the Atlantic Beach Bridge. Fish the same lures as fishing for the Speckled Trout will work along with jigging Stingsilvers.

Redfish – the Cape Lookout Jetty in the last week also has some good numbers of Reds showing up on it. I know closer to the beach on the Jetty, the Redfish bite was pretty good and at times one after another. Berkley Gulp Shrimp, Live Mud Minnows plus Live Shrimp are hard to beat when catching Redfish at Cape Lookout.

There's still huge numbers in schools hanging out in front of Bear Island Inlet. I haven't heard of any huge schools at Shark Island yet but with good numbers now on the Jetty, I bet there's some around there. I talked with a few anglers that's been trout fishing back in the creeks coming across some pretty good schools of fish too. It’s getting cold, so if you find a school you're usually going to find quite a few more to catch.

Sea Mullet fishing is still pretty good and we're seeing very nice sized ones, some of the largest we've seen in a few years. The best action seems to be from the Inlet area up to the Dead Tree Hole area and there's some good catches coming from the Turning Basin area around the Coast Guard Station. Spec-Rigs tipped with Bait Shrimp and Fish Bites is the best bet for action.

Live Shrimp & Live Mud Minnows

IN-STOCK for the weekend…

PIERS & SURF:

Last weekend, a pretty good Speckled Trout bite along the Surf Zone beside the Oceanana Pier was going on.  I think some anglers are missing out on some very good action because not too many people have been trying from the beach. I talked with one customer yesterday, that fished last Saturday afternoon from the Surf and said it was some of the best fishing he's ever had keeping a limit of 4lb fish. Yea, it’s been hit or miss but if you hit the right time it’s been great. Right at daylight and a few hours before dark seem to be the best time for the action. Mirrolures seem to be working the best plus “Live Shrimp” under Float Rigs are working great.

Radio Island beach access has been holding small trout with some keepers mixed in also. The Harkers Island bridge access has been holding some Speckled Trout to catch.  So, give these areas a try from the shore.

We're still seeing some small Blue Fish, Black Drum, Red Drum and few Sea Mullets from the bottom anglers fishing Bait Shrimp on the bottom.

OFFSHORE:

I've not got that much to report as most have given up on the Blue Water fishing for the year.  The few boats that made it out last weekend came back with some Wahoo and Black Fin Tuna.  The bottom boats are seeing good numbers of Black Sea Bass, Grouper, Snappers and Trigger Fish.
