We've seen a decent Speckled Trout bite this week with the warmer weather. We even weighed in one fish that went over the 7lb mark and some in the 3 to 5lb range.

Right now, the bigger fish that's being caught seem to be coming from the head of the creeks. It’s hard to say what creek to fish as most of the guys catching the Speck's are tight lipped on their spots. Creeks with deeper water and docks are the best areas to try but don’t pass up the areas around the marinas this time of year. The majority fishing are having the best luck using Live Mud Minnows on split shot weights fishing very slowly They're letting the minnow just swim around until the trout decides to eat.

The Neuse River creek is still producing good numbers of 2 to 3lb fish on 17MR Mirrolures, Billy Bay Halo Shad, Halo Shrimp, Storm Shrimp, Yo-Zuri 3D Minnows and X-Raps seem to be working the best in the fresher water areas. There's still good numbers of Speckled Trout to be caught around the Haystacks but most are on the smaller size but still very much fun to catch.

The Surf Zone from the Oceanana Pier back up toward Fort Macon produced a few fish this week, we weighed a fish in the other day that went over the 3lb mark caught in the Fort Macon area. I guess with the warm weather we've had the fish are still hanging along the beach which is a good thing because usually by now we aren't seeing any action from the Surf unless you're fishing at the Cape near the rocks. The standard Mirrolures like the TT and 52M are working better from the beach.

Last weekend, Tim from the shop went to the Cape Lookout Rock Jetty and found loads of Redfish, just in an afternoon trip they caught well over 50 fish. A few customers made it back up there this week and reported to me “plenty” of Red Drum. They seem to be hanging in certain areas on the rocks of what we've been seeing. I know some boats that fished there last weekend having no luck then other boats caught all they wanted. So, if you go give it a try but remember if your aren't getting any action move around, the fish are there you just have to fish around until you find them. Live Mud Minnows are working the best, but the bite was so good when Tim was fishing Berkley Gulp or just about anything worked but it took the “Live Bait” to get the fish fired up feeding.

Also, I've been hearing of some huge schools of fish that are working the beach side of the Bear Island area. When you get on them it’s all you want to catch until the school gets spooked and shuts down. Berkley Gulp baits have been working well on those fish using larger jig heads since the fish haven't been right along the beach, so you're having to make long casts. Just keep in mind when fishing that area, even though it might be low seas there's always a chance of a swell rolling in, so stay aware of your surroundings so you don’t get in a mess.

As far as the “Blue Fin Tuna” it has slowed down but a few are still being caught. Of what I'm hearing 1 to 3 fish are being sold a day; which isn't all that great but that shows us, the fish are still around. It's looks like Saturday we're going to have some colder weather so that could fire the bite back on but who knows.

I heard there was some King Mackerel out around the North West Places and Atlas Tanker area last weekend. It's not hot and heavy like the weekend before but there's still some fish out there to catch. The Black Sea Bass action is still good out around the reefs and the hard bottom areas offshore being caught on squid fished off the bottom.
