Wind, wind, wind and more wind; over the last few weeks we're getting about 1 or 2 days a week for anglers to get out on the water. After this current blow gets over (the next few days), next week it’s looking more stable. The days that's been good enough to get out and fish, the fishing's been pretty good!

Inshore / Nearshore:

Last weekend on Sunday, (the best weather day) we had anglers having some great action on the Flounder at the AR reefs just off the beach. Some of the catches that came by the shop were quite surprising. AR 315, AR320, AR330 and AR285 would all be good spots to look for these early season Flounder making their way in. Spro 2oz Bucktails tipped with Berkley Gulp 4” White Shrimp seems to be the best option in having success. Also, it would be a good idea to take some Live Mud Minnows along when out around the reefs. Along with the Flounder action anglers were catching plenty of nice sized Sea Bass around the Reefs.

Bluefish action has been good around the Cape Lookout area from the Rock Jetty and Cape Lookout Shoals. Also, very good numbers of Blues on the reefs off the East Side of the Cape. I'd say next week when the weather warms back up we'll start to see more and more make their way down toward the AB Beaches.

We are still seeing good Sea Mullet action in the Turning Basin area. I know of some good catches that were caught this past Monday. But like anything else, anglers have been fighting the winds making it hard to drift to really get on them. Along with the Mullets, anglers are catching Hog Fish, Gray Trout and Croakers all in the mix fishing on the bottom in the same area.

I heard of some Speckled Trout being caught in the creeks around the Beaufort area and back down the Bogue Sound area. Surprisingly, we're seeing some keeper fish being caught, just a matter of coming across the area that's holding fish. Also, anglers are catching some Black Drum in the creeks along with a few Redfish. Of what we've seen so far, most of the best Redfish action seems to be from the AB Bridge back down the sound toward Swansboro.

Piers / Surf:

The Oceanana Pier reporting some good Sea Mullet action over the last week. It’s not been every cast but anglers putting the time in has had no problem getting a nice cooler full. Pier anglers are seeing Blue Fish come through but no real numbers yet. There's still good numbers of Puffer fish to be caught, along with a few Black Drum. Also, Skates and Sharks have been keeping anglers in some action along the beaches.

Offshore:

Well like I said before, we have been dealing with a lot of wind making things tough getting out to the Bluewater. We did see a window Sunday and Monday this past week and a few boats took advantage of the weather and headed out. Results were good from the Swansboro Hole back up toward The Big Rock area. Good numbers of Wahoo were caught with tons of Black Fin Tuna being caught. I even heard of a few early season Blue Marlin that's been caught over the last week. So, the fish are out there to catch just need the weather patterns to get better.

As for the bottom action – we've been seeing some huge Trigger Fish being caught, with a few coming to the scales during the last week that were over the 5lb mark. There's plenty of Sea Bass and Snappers to go along with the good Trigger Fish bite. Also, I'm hearing there's good numbers of Groupers which the season will be opening in the next few weeks. Anglers will be pretty excited about that since it's been closed all winter. Most of the bottom action has been in the 30 to 40 mile range for the best action and numbers of fish.
