FISHING REPORT 05/14/2015

Don’t forget this Saturday, we're having our “Annual Tent Sale” with plenty of great deals: Rods, Reels, Tackle and more up to 60% off.  Time – 7am and goes until… so don’t miss out.

What a week we've had with May just beginning and already a named storm coming up the coast.  Tropical Storm Ana starting giving us wind last Thursday continuing thru the weekend plus into Monday, so she really affected our fishing for 6 days straight.  Just over the last two days things have started to calm down.

But by the looks of it now; this weekend’s weather is shaping up to be “PERFECT” for fishing INSHORE and along the beaches with light winds – seas 1 to 2ft plus OFFSHORE lights winds – seas 2 to 3ft. So as far as the weather; it’s not going to get much better than what we are going to see over the next several days.

Now let's get to fishing, like I said there's not been many anglers trying over the last week until yesterday. I've been getting a lot of calls about Cobia and “YES” we did weigh a few fish before the storm last week with one caught just inside the Beaufort Inlet.  Yesterday, a few boats made it out reporting back that the water is still somewhat dirty from the winds.  But by today, we should really begin to see good improvement.

We did weigh one Cobia yesterday that was caught at Cape Lookout off the bottom. I expect to see quite a few caught this weekend from boats sight fishing along the beach and anglers fishing off the bottom.  We did get our first shipment of Live Eels in for the weekend, if you are going to go out and try it's always a good choice to pick up a few. There's something about a Live Eel that a Cobia can't stand and usually will never turn one down.

Also, we just received another shipment of the custom “Emu Hair Jigs”, trust me you haven't seen anything like these before.  The hair flairs out on these jigs like crazy and with that natural look – Cobia just love them.  I don’t’ think we have ever seen a bucktail more natural looking than these “Emu” jigs.

For everything else, I'd pretty much go off last week’s report, wish I had more to report but like I said yesterday was the first day any boats got back on the water and most of them were Cobia fishing.

You should find Spanish along the beach once the water gets a little more clear which should be with just a few more tide changes. There were a few caught yesterday trolling Clarkspoons. There are still plenty of Bluefish running the inlets and beaches. We did have a customer that caught Bonito real good at AR315 last week right before the storm made the ocean to rough to get out.

I know of a few boats that headed out to the Bluewater yesterday and still found plenty of Dolphin and few Wahoo along with a few Tuna.  The Big Rock area down to the Swansboro Hole seems to be the hot spots. We have plenty of real pretty Ballyhoo in stock ready for the weekend.

So, with the weather forecast for the weekend I just can't see how over the next few days that we'll see “Good Fishing” – Inshore, Nearshore, Piers, Surf and Bluewater all should see some good action.

Make sure if you catch one that you want to get weighed bring it by the shop and put it on the scales along with a picture of your great catch posted on Facebook.
