Looks like we have some beautiful weather in the forecast for this weekend, plenty of sunshine and lights winds coming our way.  Just in time to start off the Big Rock week beginning with the ladies event on Saturday and the main tournament starting on Monday.  If you're going to be in town next week keep a look out on our Facebook page as it will be up-dating when a big Blue Marlin is on the way to the scales.

Inshore:

I've been getting a lot of calls about if the Cobia have left the area yet, the weather kept us off the water earlier this week but yesterday and today our charter fleet was back out looking for them and had no problem bringing some back to the dock. So, yes there's still some hanging around. I know last week, we saw some really nice fish being caught so, I expect the same this weekend. The best areas seem to still be around Beaufort Inlet and the Cape Lookout area.

I'd say with the good weather report we have for the weekend anglers probably will see some good action on the sight fishing game. Sun and light winds is the ideal conditions and that's what we'll see over the next few days. So, if you like to fish for Cobia, this weekend might be your real last shot of seeing good action before they move on.

We are starting to see some Sheepshead make their way in now. I remember last year, the Big Rock week was when we had an excellent bite on them and that next week. So, things really should start picking up for the convicts. As for locations, the best area seems to be around the Atlantic Beach Bridge right now. But we've seen some from around the Beaufort High Rise Bridge and the Port Wall area also. We are just at the start of the season for these fish so, we'll see more and more show up as we move into summer. Now, that a few fish are starting to be caught, we do have Live Sea Urchins and Live Fiddler Crabs In-Stock.

I've been getting some calls about the Sheepshead Jackpot Challenge and yes, we will be having it again this year. It will start on July 1st for anyone that wants to enter.

Spanish bite is still very good. The dirty water from the rain slowed the bite some but with a few tide changes over the next few days things should be back to normal and back wide open. With the water staying cooler than normal so far this year, the Spanish fishing has been great, keeping the fish in a feeding mode most of the day. The Beaufort Inlet back down the beach toward the Double Tree Resort plus there's been a great bite off the Cape Lookout Shoals over the last few weeks.  Anglers trolling Clarkspoons with planers are having no problem filling their limits of fish.  If you like to cast light tackle to them anglers are having good luck with that at the Cape Lockout Shoals. There's been a few caught casting around the Fort Macon Shoals but the best of it has been at the Cape.  Again, along with the Spanish you'll catch plenty of Bluefish in the mix.  Same lures – same areas will find you plenty of action on the Blues.

I can report we're starting to see more Red Drum move into the area, since our 1st Event is over from the Carolina Redfish Series, the guys are letting a bit more info out to me. Fish are working in Core Creek, Haystacks, Newport River Marsh areas. There's still no huge numbers of fish but good enough where if you work the shallow flats and creeks you should come up with some good fish. Most that were weighed in last week came down south around the Swansboro area.  Top Water Lures, Gulp baits seemed to be the go to lures this past weekend. Now for just fun fishing, it’s hard to beat a Live Mud Minnow or Live Shrimp under a Popping Cork which we have both in stock in our tanks ready for action.

Also, anglers are catching some nice Speckled Trout on the flats along with some showing up in the Neuse River area. As far of what we've seen the Bogue Sound area has been the best. Nothing like you'll see in the fall but still a few fish around to play with.

I've not seen many flounder this week but that doesn't mean they're not biting. It's just been too rough to get out to the reefs where most of the fish have been hanging.  It does look like over the next few days there's going to be a good weather window to head back out to the reefs: AR 315, 320, 330 and 285 all have been holding fish.  Spro 2oz Bucktails tipped with 4” Berkley Gulp Shrimp are working the best along with Live Mud Minnows fished on a Carolina Rig. There's a few around the Port Wall and the bridges to be caught along with some being caught on Live Mud Minnows drift fishing the inlet and ICW Channel.

The Shark Fishing and Amber Jack fishing have been good this past week. We have been seeing some crazy Shark action behind the shrimp boats in the ocean.  When I say crazy, I mean hundreds of sharks feeding and big ones at that. Pretty much anything your put in the water they will take and you'd better be ready. One of our charter guys broke 3 rods in one trip because the sharks were so BIG. Another fish to test your tackle is the Amber Jacks and they have been pretty thick at AR330 just off the beach. Jigging Bucktails, Dead Shad, Live Shad and Poppers on top has been working well. When they are fired up feeding it doesn't take much to get some action and I mean some ACTION.

Piers / Surf:

Spanish and Bluefish have been the name of the game from the piers; plugging Got-Cha Plugs off the piers has been the ticket.  The key to it is, just be there when the fish come through and are feeding, early morning and late in the afternoons. Last week, there were even some Cobia hooked off the piers when some schools were swimming by, so this time of the year always be ready for a Cobia – you don’t want to miss out on a nice fish.

As for the bottom fishing, we have been seeing more Hogfish than anything this week but still catching some Sea Mullets, Black Drum, Pompanos, Croakers, Sharks, Skates and Bluefish. It’s getting that time of year when there'll be a good mix bag coming off the bottom. Fishing with bait shrimp, squid, mullet and bloodworms will find you some action.

Offshore:

The Dolphin bite seems to be getting closer and closer to the beach, 14 Buoys to the 90ft Drop seems to be the best places holding fish.  Also, we've seen some good catches around the Swansboro Hole and the Rise area but fish have been seen as close in at AR330 just last week and some nice ones at that. Just keep in mind the closer you fish toward the beach you want run into huge numbers of fish so if you catch 4 or 5 that’s a good catch. Trolling Small and Medium Ballyhoo behind Sea Witches in the Blue/White and Pinks have been working well, along with C&H small lures without bait have been working well on the smaller Dolphin.  Anglers are still catching some Wahoo in the mix not as thick as they were but we'll see some throughout the summer.

Bottom fishing reports are good with Black Sea Bass, Groupers and Snappers being caught.

Next week, anglers will be on their search for the big boys in the “Big Rock Blue Marlin Tournament” in hopes to land and bring a winning fish to the scales. Good Luck Anglers!!  We want to extend our shop to the anglers in hopes that we may serve your needs. Plus, welcome to the Lady Anglers wishing them good luck on fishing Saturday's KWLA Tournament.
