Inshore:

There's still Cobia around to be caught.  We've weighed in several with three going over 40lbs this week. Most of the fish are being caught inside the inlet now.  I think the ones that stayed around are spawning because some that's been caught were in the Haystacks area in the ICW Channel.  Behind Shackleford Banks and Cape Lookout are still good areas. I've heard of some being caught off sea turtles in the ocean also. Still the bait of choice has to be Dead Menhaden fished on the bottom plus you can try Dead Eels fished on the bottom. We have both in stock.

Flounder fishing is getting really good at our nearshore reefs with good numbers of fish being caught. AR 315, 320, 330 and 285 are all great places to fish and all of these have been producing fish.  Spro 2oz Bucktails tipped with 4” Berkley Gulp Shrimp is the way to go when fishing the reefs. I also heard of some nice fish being caught on Live Mud Minnows at 330 this past weekend. There's been a few caught inshore around docks, bridges and the anglers drifting the channels but the numbers of fish still seem to be in the ocean but making their way in. I've seen a few limits from anglers drifting Live Mud Minnows and Berkley Gulp Mud Minnows along the drops and channels.

This past weekend we weighed our first Sheepshead over 10lbs so that's a good sign. I had a customer come buy bait yesterday and he came back with two over 8lbs and quite a few more in the cooler. It seems like the High Rise Bridges are the best place that is holding the most fish. The Port Wall has some fish around it but they aren't thick yet. Also, some of the docks along the ICW are producing some nice fish.  Live Fiddler Crabs and Sea Urchins are the best bait to use and we have both in-stock ready for action.

Spanish fishing was a little off last weekend but anglers are catching them good this week.  We're starting to get into that summer time pattern with the Spanish now. On some days they're all over the place but on some days it will be slower fishing.  But that’s fishing and there's plenty of them to be caught that’s for sure.  Trolling along the beaches and in the inlet area will produce the most action. The Cape Lookout area also is producing good numbers of fish. Clarkspoons trolled behind planers and trolling weights are producing good catches. I've heard that some have been caught casting in the inlet area on high tide cycles.  You also will pick up plenty of Blue Fish while fishing for Spanish with the same lures and in the same areas.  The Bird Rigs also have been picking up fish along with Mackerel Trees.

Well, this Sunday the 15th “Speckled Trout” is going to be opening back up for anglers to keep them. The limit is going to be 14 inches with 4 fish per person a day.  The best action on trout over the last few weeks has been in our river systems on topwaters plugs. We're also still seeing some nice Red Drum action in the marsh areas. They aren't everywhere but the guys locating them are finding good numbers of fish. It’s just been a lot of looking to find the areas that are holding the fish. Topwaters, Redfish Magic’s, Berkley Gulp, Live Mud Minnows, Cut Mullet and Z-Man baits all are working when you locate the fish.

Piers / Surf:

Well, it’s getting hot and we're getting into our summer time pattern. Fishing for Spanish early in the mornings and late afternoons on Got-Cha Plugs and Kastmasters. Blue Fish are mixed in with the Spanish and will hit the same plugs. As for the bottom anglers they are catching a mix bag from Red Drum, Pompano, Spot, Black Drum, Sea Mullets. Croakers, Hog Fish, Flounder and Sharks. Most fishermen are fishing with Bait Shrimp, Live Mud Minnows, Squid, Bloodworms, Mullet and Sand Fleas.  The Fort Macon area will be one of the best areas to fish since there's not as many people in the water swimming being the currents and the rock jetty isn't the safest place to swim.

Offshore:

The “Big Rock” anglers are having a great week with lots of Bill Fish being caught so far this week. This is the most fish the tournament has seen in quite awhile over the last few years. The bite has been “RED HOT” all week for the anglers. The INSPIRATION is in the lead with a 754.3 lbs Blue Marlin, EYE CATCHER is in 2nd Place with 606.9 lbs and 3rd Place CARNIVORE with 410.7 lbs. There's 3 more days of fishing left so it's far from over. As far as the Dolphin bite it's doing very well with plenty of fish to be caught., We're now seeing our first signs of fish in that 20 mile range.  I've not heard of any huge numbers of fish but we're starting to see them push in. The best action is still in that Big Rock area down toward The Rise and north of the Big Rock.  There's still a few Wahoo in the mix as well. The bottom fishing is good for Sea Bass, Grouper, Grunts, Snappers and Triggers in that 35-mile range seems to be producing the most fish. But the closer in areas are seeing great numbers of Amber Jacks showing up. Now's the time to get the big poppers out and have some fun. Top Water Amber Jack fishing can be some great fun.
