Fishing Report 07/26/2018

Sorry, for the lack of a report last week but I headed to the North Carolina Mountains for a little family time in the Great Smokies and some cooler air. As I was keeping up with what was going at the shop, sounded like I didn’t miss much as the weather hasn’t been so hot for fishing in the last week or so. We’ve been seeing a lot of winds and solid rain for most of the first part of this week, until today we saw sunny skies. So, this week’s report is going to be a little different and pretty much on what we’ve seen in the last 24 hours as anglers and our charter fleet have just got back out on the water.

Today, we sent 4 boats out ready to catch some fish, all our captains were kind of cornered of what they might find with the heavy rain we’ve had since Monday. But even with all the rain and the discolored water condition we found some fish. One of our boats fished up toward Cape Lookout and found lots of Bluefish schooling and feeding on anything you tossed in the water, that group caught all they wanted to catch. Also, had two boats fishing the port area for Flounder since the bite was really good before the rain and again the fish were still there. One boat had 10 or so and the other boat also saw good action, fishing Live Minnows from the shop. Another boat tried their hand drift fishing the channels and saw some success with the flat fish too.

We haven’t had any solid Spanish reports in the last week with the bad weather, and today was no different with the ocean just to rough to get outside along the beach to see what the fish were doing. But I’m sure what we saw today on the inside waters the ocean fishing for the mackerel will be back on once we can get back out on the beach front.

We’ve had some customers having some luck on the Speckled Trout using Live Shrimp from the shop around the docks along Taylor’s Creek area. Also, we’ve been making some runs to the Neuse River because of the winds and not being able to get in the ocean, couple of our boats saw some really good luck in that area last weekend with Red Drum, Speckled Trout and Flounder on Live Minnows and Live Shrimp fished under Popping Corks along the grass banks. We also have been seeing a few Old Drum showing up in the river, no crazy action yet but we are on the verge of the bite busting loose. We have been working this week on getting everything stocked up for the “Old Drum Season” along with getting plenty of Fresh Mullet lined up when the bite turns on.

Josh (Lil Coon) and Todd (Wildcat) from our shop sales team are out on the water today and been sending lots of Sheepshead pictures. They have already been back twice for more bait so the Sheepshead bite is pretty strong right now. Last weekend, with the bad weather we weighed a few nice fish with one over 9lbs. We have Live Fiddler Crabs and Sea Urchins in-stock ready for action along with the Fiddler Crab Jigs that have been working so well.

As far as an Offshore report, we haven’t had any weather window for over a week now to get out to the grounds. Talked to one of our Offshore guys this morning in picking up some supplies for the next three days as they are planning to tough it out and head to the Gulf Stream so, we should have some solid reports coming in over the next few days.

So, like I’ve been telling customers over the last few days here in the shop; after a big weather event like we just had you just go get back out on the water and see what’s happening. Don’t think the fish won’t be biting as today we’ve already seen some great catches of fish. The weekend weather forecast looks decent so come on and go try your luck and bring us some fish to weigh, we look forward to seeing you!
