“FALL” fishing is definitely here!!  This week, we’ve weighed King after King from 33 to 48 lbs plus some big Spanish over 8 lbs.  Monday, North West Places #1 was on “FIRE” but that’s not the only area fish were caught.

The forecast for the weekend looks great for inshore/near shore with winds light on Friday and Saturday with a good chance anglers can get offshore on Friday and even better on Saturday.  Actually, the weekend weather looks GREAT!!

 

INSHORE

Well, this week we’ve weighed some beautiful and healthy “SPECKLED TROUT” with the largest over 5lbs.  Anglers are catching them around the Haystacks, the creeks up Core Creek, Taylor’s Creek, Middle Marsh and North River.  We saw a nice limit of Speck’s yesterday and with the cooler weather it’s only going to get better. Report just in, beautiful Speckled Trout at Radio Island Rock Jetty by boat and from the shore waders!!

Using a Float Rig or a Popping Cork is one of the best ways to fish for them right now. Artificial baits will produce bites too, such as Gulp 3” Shrimp, DOA Shrimp, Billy Bay Shrimp and Vudu Shrimp.  Now, many anglers love to fish the Mirrolure 17MR when the bite turns on.  Anglers are already landing some from the beach and Radio Island using Mirrolures. We have our fingers crossed that the beach will be on fire soon plus the Cape Lookout Rock Jetty.  

 

Anglers are enjoying catching some very nice “REDFISH” in the same areas as the Speckled Trout.  A lot of times when the trout quit biting the Reds are in the same areas.  Anglers are reporting large schools in the shallows with some around the jetties.  Fish with Gulp on Popping Corks, a Johnson Spoon, Vudu Mullet but on the live bait side Mud Minnows or Live Shrimp will entice a bite.

 

The “SPOT” bite has been “HOT” all week!!  Anglers have reported to us that they’ve caught over 90 Spots in a day.  The Beaufort Draw Bridge, Duke Marine Lab and the Beaufort Channel have been fished hard all week with coolers filled each day.  Also, the Turning Basin and around the Morehead Waterfront is producing quantities too.  It won’t be much longer before they leave, so don’t miss out – plan to “SPOT” fish this weekend.  Live Bloodworms or fresh Shrimp is still the best baits but the artificial bloodworms are working well too.

“SEA MULLETS” – the Turning Basin, Dead Tree Hole and the Inlet are the best areas to catch the mullets and they are here.  Anglers have fished all week for them with good catches and nice fish.  Spec-Rigs tipped with fresh Shrimp or Bloodworms will fill your coolers or give you a good mess for dinner. Also, you’ll catch Croakers and Hogfish in with the Mullets plus even Spots.

 

There’s been several good “FLOUNDER” weighed this week over 5lbs.  The Port Wall, Railroad Tracks, both the Atlantic Beach and Beaufort High Rise Bridges and the Coast Guard Station will be the best areas to fish for flounder.  We have Live Finger Mullet and Live Mud Minnows for the anglers this weekend but the live mullet goes early, just remember that.  Also, the reefs are great places to catch the larger flounder using a 2 or 3oz Bucktail tipped with Gulp 4” White or Glow Shrimp.

 

Now, this week the “GRAY TROUT” bite has been “GREAT” during the day fishing the Railroad Tracks, Port Wall, Turning Basin and the High Rise Bridges in Atlantic Beach and Beaufort.  Tim – the Troutman, here from the shop fished on Tuesday and boy did he have a ball landing Grays, Flounder and Red Drum.  Just come by and he’ll be happy to put you on fish.  Here’s what you’ll need for the Gray’s: jig a Sting Silver or the new Silverside Sting Silver plus Grubs or Live Shrimp.  The Atlantic Beach Bridge at night this week has been producing a good bite using Live Shrimp or Live Finger Mullet.

 

The “SPANISH” have moved out close to Northwest Places and on the Eastside AR285 but you might still catch a few along the beach or near AR 315.  We’ve heard that some were caught off the pier just yesterday. 

“BLUES” are numerous in the Inlet, Turning Basin and out on the beach.  Cast small jigs and they will tear it up.  They can be a nuisance but fun to catch.  If you cook them up fresh, they can be real tasty.  This weekend you will have a good chance to hook-up some “ALBACORE” casting small lures into the feeding fish.  Locate the birds feeding on the glass minnows and you’ll more than likely find Bluefish and Albacore under them.  HANG-ON for some FUN!!

 

“KINGS, KINGS, KINGS” –   We can’t say enough about the bite that’s going on.  Kings have come to the scales this week ranging 32 lbs up to 48 lbs.  The bite was exceptional on Monday and Tuesday out at North West Places #1. Other areas fish were caught around AR285 with large Spanish in the mix.  Places to fish this weekend will be AR315, the Shipping Channel, Dead Tree Hole, Beaufort Inlet, North West Places and Big Ten Little Ten.  Live Bait fishing with Menhaden or Bluefish on live bait rigs or Pirate Plugs and Dead Cigar Minnows on Dead Bait Rigs will produce a good bite and bring a King to the scale.

 

PIERS AND SURF

The Oceanana Pier has been the place to be this week.  The SPOT bite turned on last Sunday and has continued all week.  Anglers are catching plenty of them two at a time and good sized ones at that. The artificial bloodworm and live bloodworms are the best bait to use for the Spots.  In addition to the Spot bite there’s been a lot of Bluefish caught off the end of the pier casting Gotcha-plugs or Jig-fish Lures. Flounder is biting with anglers using live finger mullet or live minnows.  Also, you’ll still catch Croakers, Sea Mullet (Whiting) and Pompano using bottom rigs with bait shrimp.

There’s been Puppy Drum caught with anglers using “Fresh Mullet” in the SURF and Fort Macon Rock Jetty.  Flounder is hugging the beach right in the breakers, fish with Live Mud Minnows or Gulp White Swimming Mullet.  You’ll catch a lot of small ones but there’s keeper size fish there too. Blues, Pompano, Sea Mullet, Black Drum are being caught too using fresh shrimp.  Another, great bait to use in the Surf is fresh mullet or finger mullet.  We’ll have plenty for the weekend.

 

 

OFFSHORE

The fall Wahoo bite continues for the boats that get out to the blue water.  This weekend should allow anglers to venture out on Friday and Saturday.  We have plenty of Medium Ballyhoo, Blue Water Candy Rigs, Skirts in Black/Purple and Red/Black.  A Blue Water Candy Jag-A-Hoo Chain works great for Wahoo in the same colors.  Areas to fish is the Rise, 1700 Rock out to the Big Rock and down toward the Swansboro Hole.

We had a good report on bottom fishing this week with a great Grouper bite. Also, there’s Triggerfish, Black Sea Bass, B-liners and AJs to be caught.  Bait to use is Squid, Squid Wing, Cigar Minnows or Menhaden to produce fish in your cooler.
